Here’s a look at an extraordinary graduate from the Class of 2022:

Last name: Antoine Sauchelli

Hometown: Manalapan, New Jersey

Major: Psychology

Post-graduation projects: Sauchelli is attending St. George’s University in Grenada to pursue an MD.

How HPU helped you get there: “HPU prepared me and so many others for the world beyond our undergraduate studies. The Faculty of Natural and Behavioral Sciences inspired and guided me to pursue such a humbling profession. Their passion for not only educating but also wanting students to strive beyond their expectations is something I appreciate when I look back on my departure from HPU. With their help and effort, I felt extremely ready to transition from HPU to medical school. »

Most Impactful Mentor at HPU: “My biggest mentors at HPU were Rusty Smith, trumpet teacher, and Steven McHugh, drum teacher. They are two people with whom I spent a lot of time during my four years of continuous musical training. As a student on a pre-med track, I met with them weekly to do what I love: play music. I developed a relationship with them well beyond the musical practice rooms. Dr. James Pampush, assistant professor of exercise science, was also one of my most influential mentors. He introduced me to the basics of anatomy and was a great guide to getting into my current field. Without these three people, I would not be where I am today.

Most memorable moment at HPU: “In March 2020, receiving the email that HPU would close and continue virtual learning was something that impacted not just me, but the whole world. The pandemic has affected people. people around the world and at that time my career goals were still up in the air Losing some of my experience at HPU by seeing people who sacrificed themselves to help those in need helped solidify my future. I am grateful for the guidance HPU provided to students to continue their academic learning and stay on track during a challenging time that lacked normalcy.

How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success? “HPU’s extraordinary learning experience begins as soon as you walk through the doors, whether you are an admitted student or not. As you walk along Kester’s International Walk, you see quotes and statues of innovators who have changed the world and flags representing each country HPU students come from. It is amazing to see such small details on a campus used for much more important purposes. With so many different clubs and activities for students to participate in, this is a school built for success. Using HPU’s inspiring environment has helped me get to where I am today.

What life skills did HPU help you develop that set you up for long-term success? “HPU does a great job of opening doors to opportunity and creating a broad network among faculty and peers looking to pursue similar goals. The elaborate psychology and pre-med curriculum helped me develop time management, which is so important in medical school. HPU’s small classes taught me not to be afraid to speak up, ask questions, and work with other students around me to maximize my learning experience.

What are the values and virtues that the HPU campus has helped you develop and that you will take with you after graduation? “I learned many values from the staff at HPU, including the security team, the cafeteria staff and the campus improvement team. Seeing them serve HPU students with a smile on their face is n was not something I took lightly. These people work so hard to keep us safe and provide for every student. I am so grateful to have been surrounded by such caring and hardworking staff, and with them, I learned the importance of serving the community by putting others before myself.

Hints for subclasses: “Introduce yourself to others, you never know who you are sitting next to. Put yourself there. You could open a door to possibilities you never imagined. Enjoy your time and take photos. You will think back to those four short years for the rest of your life.
