North Texas Vein & Vascular Makes Women Feel Like Themselves Again – Cross Timbers Gazette | Denton County South | Mound of flowers | News

Dr Robert Handley would like to say that his road to becoming Flower Mound’s leading interventional radiologist was a straight line – that he wanted to be a doctor since he was a young boy and never took his eyes off that goal . But truth be told, the Houston native didn’t realize his true passion for health until he was 32 years old.

“I did a lot of things,” said Dr. Handley, who was a software engineer fresh out of college. He also went to flight school, worked as a volunteer paramedic, and earned a master’s degree in space science. “Once I started thinking about medical school, I jumped into it.”

He added, “Focusing on interventional radiology procedures was the best decision I could have made. I love it.”

That was nearly 30 years ago. Dr. Handley received his medical degree from the medical branch of the University of Texas at Galveston and later completed a general surgery fellowship at the University of South Alabama. He then completed a residency in diagnostic radiology and a fellowship in vascular and interventional radiology at Southwestern Medical School at the University of Texas at Dallas.

Since venturing on his own and opening North Texas Vein & Vascular in 2012, his practice has quickly become known for quality and compassionate patient care and a go-to resource for a variety of procedures. aimed at helping people live their best life. As a licensed physician, Dr. Handley has extensive experience in minimally invasive image-guided procedures and has a particular interest in venous procedures and the treatment of venous insufficiency. This includes helping to relieve patients of the pain and embarrassment of varicose veins and spider veins.

He is also one of the best doctors in the Metroplex for uterine fibroid embolization procedures, a minimally invasive alternative to major surgery like hysterectomy or myomectomy. He has dedicated himself in recent years to educating more women about their options.

Putting all of these accolades and specialties aside, Dr. Handley insists that it all comes down to providing unparalleled patient care.

“We have put tremendous effort into patient care and the overall patient experience, and I am proud to say that we have been able to help many people overcome conditions that have impacted their lives for years” , Dr. Handley said.

While Dr. Handley has long been known for vein procedures, a growing part of his practice close to his heart is dedicated to helping women with symptomatic fibroids. Although non-cancerous, these tumors grow in the uterus and can cause a variety of symptoms ranging from heavy menstrual bleeding to pelvic pain and pressure, bloating, etc. A woman can have one or more fibroids, each different in size and location, and it is estimated that 70-80% of women will develop them during their lifetime.

Not all women need treatment, but those who do usually are unaware of UFE as an alternative to surgery. UFE only requires a wrist puncture. Rather than removing the fibroids, the procedure cuts off blood flow to the fibroids, causing them to shrink and die.

“We hear horror stories of women saying they are prisoners in their own homes because they are afraid of bleeding etc.,” Dr Handley said. “They also don’t always know that UFE is an option. But when they go through the treatment, they recover quickly and they can get their life back, it’s a great feeling for us. That’s why we focus so much on UFE, because it can benefit so many women.

“They need relief without the invasive complexities of surgery, and we strive to provide that for them.”

In addition to offering a variety of treatments under one roof, including cosmetic treatments such as laser hair removal, skin tightening, and more, North Texas Vein & Vascular is thrilled with its complete renovation and new custom processing facility. Located at 870 International Parkway, Suite 200 on the southern tip of Flower Mound in the Lakeside Development, North Texas Vein & Vascular features an in-office laboratory, in-house procedures, an interactive patient and family waiting room, and multiple bedrooms of patients and procedural suites, all equipped with state-of-the-art technology.

“It’s great to see our practice do so much for our patients, and we want to continue to grow this practice,” Dr. Handley said. “And now that we’re in Lakeside, we’re more convenient for a lot of our patients locally and in Dallas.”
